ok, first thoughts.
#1. Yes, Dean. You should once try paper. #2. Sam's getting intense. #3. Tension between the boys? A bit, ya think? #4. Sam liked having someone look up to him with admiration and no judgment. #5. Hello, SUPER SAM! Dean can be hospitalized how many times? Sam loses all that blood, but nope, he's back in action right away. Who needs blood anyway? #6. Dean? angry much? Obviously Dean did NOT mean it as a compliment. Angry much? I LOVED Dean saying out loud what we've been saying FOR MONTHS NOW!

Yes... And I loved seeing the hints of John. Course, now that you have the journal, it makes me want to look for ripped out pages.

Hm, I was hoping for a No.
I haven't discovered any ripped out pages yet, but then I'm still in the year 1985 ...

First, I have to say, I am very glad I was even able to watch this one! We had massive storms last night (something like 2000 lightning strikes in 1 hour, and I was so afraid that we would lose power in the middle of the show! I breathed a huge sigh of relief once the show was over). My thoughts--while I wasn't crazy about this one, I have to say, the acting was top notch. I thought the actor they got to portray Adam was really good, and he even looked like a Winchester! Although, I asked myself why they even went there with the brother thing? I think they could have told the same story, with the same ending, and Adam could have not been their brother. But, hey, at least if they are all of a sudden going to introduce a new brother, he's already dead, so we don't have to wonder where he is (ala Chuck from "Happy Days"). I saw some role reversal here--I think Dean has finally taken his dad down a few levels off that pedestal, but I think Sam may have put him up some. I think both boys were angry, just in a different way. I think Dean was angry that Adam got to do the things with his father that he didn't, that while Dean was busy being a father to Sam, John was off being a father to another kid. I think Sam was angry at the thought of Adam getting what he always wanted--a normal life. I really liked strong Dean! He did the hunt, figured out what was going on, and saved the day, so to speak, without any supernatural powers--just using the skills he's been tought. No weakness here. I also saw some callbacks to other episodes--when Dean was in the crypt and broke the window in the ceiling (the one with the angel on it--interesting), it reminded me of "Lazarus Rising," both when Dean climbed out of the grave, and then with all the glass falling around him. And wasn't it about this time last year that Sam was tied up to a table? I had such a train of thought during the whole blood-sucking thing. First, I thought that when the mom said Sam's blood tasted different, that all of a sudden they would start dying or something. Then I thought how ironic it was that one of the things that keep the ghouls strong (the drinking the blood, not the eating people) is the same thing that keeps Sam strong. Then I had to wonder if he was trying to use his powers, and if the reason he couldn't was because they weren't demons, or if it was because of the blood loss. Then my last thought was that he's probably going to have to call Ruby soon to replenish himself! The end--two thoughts went through my head: 1) "Dean, you're just now figuring out that Sam is just like your father?" 2) "Sam, I don't think he meant it as a compliment."

Mick, that's terrifying!!! I'm glad you didn't lose power! And wow, that's a LOT of lightning strikes!!!!!!!!!! Did you get these kind of storms often?
On to the episode:
I loved this! I was sure I would hate the whole brother thing, but I loved it!!! This was so well done, how both boys reacted completely different to Adam, Dean's hurt over John being a real father to Adam, Sam trying to turn him into a hunter to keep him safe. I am glad though that he's dead ... I wouldn't have liked to see him again in another episode and at the same time I wouldn't have want him to just never be mentioned again nor did I want the boys having to watch him die. So that he was already dead was the perfect solution! (I'm glad John didn't live to see it ... this would have killed him!). I worship Kripke just a little bit more after this one. The man's a genius!
I wonder if Bobby knew about Adam? Would John have told him?
I asked myself why they even went there with the brother thing? I think they could have told the same story, with the same ending, and Adam could have not been their brother
I don't think it would have had the same effect if Adam hadn't really been John's son. This way the hurt Dean felt was more real. John did take some time out of hunting and went to visit Adam and with him he did all the things Dean wished he'd have done with him.

I totally agree. This sums it up perfectly!
I really liked strong Dean!
YES! It was about time we got to see that side of Dean again!

I was wondering too why he didn't use his powers. It could be the blood loss, but when he woke up strapped to the table (in a totally sick way I love that image LOL) they hadn't cut him yet. He could have used his powers on him. Could it be that it only works on demons? That's strange ...
If he has to call Ruby ... maybe that's when Dean finds out!
1) "Dean, you're just now figuring out that Sam is just like your father?"
YES! As if this hasn't been obvious since Season 1!
2) "Sam, I don't think he meant it as a compliment."
I don't think so either.
Sam loses all that blood, but nope, he's back in action right away. Who needs blood anyway?
Yeah, he did recover so fast from that. I would have thought he'd feel weaker now that he lost not only so much blood, but also the demon blood making him strong in the first place.

Yeah, you're right, but when I was typing it, I was still thinking that John for whatever reason still went to see the kid, but now I realize that would have made no sense, so just ignor eme on that part! ;D
Yeah, he did recover so fast from that
It's the amazing WB/CW medical plan! All your boo-boo's will disappear instantly!!!
Did you get these kind of storms often?
Sometimes. We've had really bad rounds of weather here these last few weeks--a few tornadoes, bad storms. Once the warm weather comes, there's more of a chance. It seems like we're either in a drought or under water!!!!!
ETA: I still felt a little sad when I saw KM's name in the opening credits. I also read somewhere that his picture is in the episode. I went back through and tried to find it. It's the scene in the motel room, when Adam comes to see them and Dean's cleaning the guns. They focus on some sort of sign or something, and I think the pic in the right corner of the sign is an older pic of KM (with a mustache).

I didn't LOVE the episode, but enjoyed it. I wasn't watching with 100% attention. (I never seem to be able to do that any more. I was doing other things while it was on.)
I didn't think Sam seemed angry at ALL that Adam got a better life. I kept waiting to see it and never saw anger. I'm going to have to re-watch. He seemed so accepting of it. He seemed thrilled. I suppose his anger was in trying to bring Adam over to hunting? I didn't see that so much as anger.
I do agree that Dean dealt with some daddy issues.
I wondered about Sam's lack of power. He's said he can't harm humans. But Ghouls aren't demons... it could be that he can't affect Ghoul's either. IT could be he's weak and now he'll call Ruby and that's how Dean will find out, but I think it's just as likely he can't harm the ghouls. Do you think he can harm an Angel? Has he tried anything against any of them?
You're not going to like my theory on Sam's recovery... It's because the show has become the Dean Winchester show. It's now catering to Dean. People like the hurt comfort of Dean... so we SAW Dean in the hospital healing, hurting... But Sam's now almost a B character, used only to further Dean's character, so he gets shafted.
*ducking*
Saright, I still WORSHIP the show AND in my dreams, I develop lovely, balanced story lines...
(And before you argue it was Sam in the beginning, I believe Dean was equally balanced in the story line then... He was balanced by his sacrifice for family and raising Sam, etc. Now, it is not, especially since Sam is being utterly painted as the bad guy and Dean as the holy savior. The scales were tipped way too far.)
Ducking...
ALSO... I thought Adam really favored Dean and I loved the rationale Sam pushed on Dean... Dean of ALL PEOPLE should know it's possible to have fathered a child... Come on. However, I did wonder about her knowing John's name. DIdn't they use alias's... John used his real name? BUT I have to re-watch...
