Yannik--I've read numerous times that what happened with Sam will be the main storyline starting around episode 7 or 8, and go on for a few episodes, so I wouldn't worry about him being pushed to the background. I think the fjirst episode had to be about Dean, trying to cover Sam would have been too much materila for an hour. Plus, it sets up the whole "secret" stuff. Obviously, Sam has been busy with Ruby. As for me, I'm glad Dean now has a part in the mytharc. You mentioned BSG--I never could stand that Kara had the whole "special destiny" thing and Lee didn't; that he had to react to her. As long as the writers handle it the right way, I'm looking forward to both brothers being a part of it; Dean has more now than being Sam's big brothers/protector; he has his own role to play outside of that one, which I have to wonder if eventually that role will come into conflict with his feelings for his brother? I never watched "Buffy," so the grave didn't bother me at all. JA's voice was painful to listen to--I wonder it hurt him to talk like that? It was very believable; of course your voice would sound that way after 4 months of no use. And my ears hurt, too, everytime Castel made his appearance. LOVED the reunion scene with Bobby! What more can I say? And the bottles? {{hugs Bobby}} Maybe Dean will finally start to realize that he means something to people and those sef-esteem issues will be gone! And the brother reunion? Perfect. The looks on both of their faces...Sam apologizing, Dean telling him he doesn't have to be sorry...the amulet...the look on Bobby's face...all perfect! Seelix! Man, she looks different with make-up and civilian clothes! The seance was kind of freaky, and the whole eyes thing..yeah, I'd be just as freaked out as the boys! And what's with the eyes? That one flashback of Dean's was kind of scary, too. I hope they handle his hell memories well. Okay, so fandom was in an uproar with the whole "smarter brother" thing, and then the line that never came to be with Sam saying something like, "I've done just fine without you" (seriously, I had to laugh that that line was not in there; there was so much Sam vs Dean going on with this one scene, which seems to be popular with this show's fans anyways, and then it never happened). I didn't like the "smarter brother" line at all. It didn't sound like something Dean would say. When has he ever implied he was smarter? Better looking? Yeah. The better hunter? Sure. But smarter? It just didn't sound right. Ruby--I knew she'd be back. I still don't trust her. I think she's playing Sam. I think he needs to think over his "Am I doing the right thing" question. Is he? Or is he being misled by Ruby. And when Dean finds out she's back, well, I can't wait to see that scene! I still think she wants him evil--since when does she not want to come between the boys? Of course, this shows Sam's headspace after Dean's death, but I can say I'm afraid for Sammy. Castiel--yeah, another hotty. And then asking Dean the tough questions about his faith, the one thing we know he's never had. We know he doesn't believe in angels (we saw that on HOTH), so to find out he's supposedly been raised by one, plus being alive anyways, has got to have him totally freaking out! There is distance between the boys, which is totally believable. Dean's attitude in the car didn't bother me all that much--he'd just crawled out of a grave but he doesn't why or how, he's been reunited with his family, and he's always tended towards the attitude when it comes to emotional things. I couldn't believe that Sam left him, either, after just getting his dead brother back, but not knowing how and if anyone was after him. Oh, Sammy with the I-Pod and emo music! I tink we're in for one heck of a ride this season! I can't wait!

A few other thoughts... How funny was it when Bobby threw the holy water in Dean's face? That was priceless! The look on Dean's face, the way Bobby shrugged, all, "You knowI had to do it." Why wasn't Dean more concerend whne he tried to call Sam and discovered the phone was disconnected? Was it because he was still so shaken about climbing out of the ground {{shudders at the thought}}. He was already freaking out, so what was one more thing? Sorry, but I don't care for this actress playing Ruby, either. Sam's powers--I don't know about this. I mean, the special effects, like Seelix was throwing up the demon was cool, but I've never been a fan of the powers thing (hey, I wonder if Dean will have powers, too). I just really liked the fact that they were human! The visions I could handle, because honestly, I do think there are people out there who have that kind of ability. But I don't know about this one. It makes Sam supernatural, in a way, and I just really never wanted the show to go there. So, will it end up being brother vs brother? Is Castiel a "good" angel? Or will Sam and Dean end up being two-sides of the same coin (both fighting the same thing, but using different means)? Will we still get the "save him or kill him" thing? And will it be Sam or Dean that needs to be saved? When Bobby said to Sam, "You're not you old man" (or however he said it), I thought, "Yeah, he is." I saw more of John in Sam then I ever have, and I'd rather watch him become his father than become evil. ETA: I just had to LOL at this! sarahsarchangels.com/C.htmlhas a list of all the angels. Here's what is says about Castiel: An angel of Thursday.

I think eventually it's going to be brother vs brother. But with Kripke who knows. Angel of Thursday, that is made of awesome. Did anyone else find the faces Sam made kind of funny when he was using his powers? To me it kind of looked like we was trying to tune a radio with his eyes closed.

I accepted perhaps even as far back as season two that Kripke had determined to make this the Dean-show.
Kripke prefers Dean. Others disagree, but I believe it's true. I believe however that Kripke isn't reacting with his "man parts" and so I don't think he'll go as overboard with Dean as RDM did with Starfart. We have been promised to see more of Sam's experience, so I guess it didn't bother me as much.
Yannik, you know I'm not well known for sharing... *trying not to pout* BUT it isn't my board, so I can't truly claim him here. I do appreciate greatly the acknowledgment. I also have to appreciate not only having someone else recognize his awesomeness, but I have to say, it does show good taste! (OK ladies, No need to complain. I know you all like him too.)

Heh, see, now I always felt (especially after reading interviews with Kripke) that this was more Sam-centered (I read once where he said we were suppose to be seeing everything through Sam's eyes; this was back in season 1). I do think he was surprised by what Jensen did with the character--he's even said as much--I just don't think they expected Jensen to take the character where he did, nor do I think they planned on the character being as deep as he is (which I think is because of how Jensen played him). I also think the fans may have had something to do with it as well (Kripke has said numerous times that he reads the message boards). I think Kripke is more a Sam personality but wishes he was Dean-like (does that make sense). When questioned about it being one brother more than the other (but in the interview I read, they were saying the show was more Sam than Dean) he basically said it was both. You can't have one without the other. I really don't think he planned on Dean being part of the myth-arc. I think Dean was always suppose to be about Sam, but as the seasons progressed, and especially after the deal, Kripke chose to make Dean a part of it as well. Besides, I fully expect some Sam-heavy episodes in a few weeks (I they start at episode 7 and will go on for a few episodes), so I don't think Sam is being pushed in the background. I don't know why they're waiting, unless it's because they don't want to do too much too soon; they'd rather spread it all out, give the viewers something to look forward to.
I just rewatched (it's alot different watching in the middle of the day as oppsed to 1:30am trying to come down from an emotional evening!), and I had a couple of more thoughts:
When Dean's at Bobby's looking up the GPS, and Bobby asks how he knew the name Sam would use, Dean responds with something like, "What don't I know about him?" If that's not foreshadowing, I don't know what is.
Jensen must have been washing that glass stuff out of his hair for a week!!!!
At first, I thought Krissy was Krissy, someone Sam was sleeping with, and then she got possessed (part of that was things I had read prior, and part of it was the time I was watching), but now I think she was Ruby the whole time, and they weren't sleeping together, they were working on Sam's powers. The verdict for me is still out on the actress, although it's leading to not being impressed (I think Seelix would have been better!).
Castiel's wings were cool!

Lots to react to in some very good commentary... Where to begin? The first girl in the hotel room I didn't get. Was she the same girl that was later id-ed as Ruby? I couldn't tell. There were too many damn brunettes last night. I am VERY curious to see why Sam's sleepin' around. I did BUST a gut when Sam said, "I don't have to pay, Dean." I liked Dean's confidence about Sam, (the GPS scene) until he actually sees Sam... THEN it's like he lost it all. He saw Sam and knew he wasn't quite the same... Hence all the doubt now? Did he get a vibe? I thought it was a bit odd he SO distrusted what Sam was telling him. He obviously doesn't believe Sam. Now granted, they're both known for holding back, BUT I'd like to think this had taught them something? I wasn't mad at Dean in the car. I dig the tension. It just reminded me of the Dean in first season. I didn't get his comment about the "smarter brother" either... I don't have a problem with no reply, as Sam was too overwhelmed. At this point, it was all about Dean's needs. I have to admit. I think Sam looked kinda doopey as he attacked the demon. Come on... practice up and do it without the hand. *giggle* If you're going to Demonize yourself... Do it well! And Ruby? Didn't like her here at all. I DID like the old Ruby. Her comments made NO SENSE at ALL. "I don't want to come between you two?" Not really Ruby...

Was she the same girl that was later id-ed as Ruby?Yep, it was the same actress. You're not the only one--I was reading someone else's reaction to the show, and she asked the same thing! I thought it was a bit odd he SO distrusted what Sam was telling him. He obviously doesn't believe Sam.See, now, I wasn't surprised by this. It's only natural he would think Sam was responsible (Bobby even thought so). Who else would want him out and be willing to go to any extreme to do so? And, of course if it had been Sam, the first thing he would do was to deny it because he knew Dean didn't want him to do that (and, come to think of it, he sat in the car and told Dean he hasn't done anything with his powers because it was Dean's "dying wish" which we know is a lie because he has the hand of demon-doom, so he would lie to Dean if he had gotten him out). But then poor broken Sam (hug the boy, yor) and his apology that broke Dean's heart (and mine ) and Dean did believe him. Ooh, and I forgot--when hot Castel comes strutting in admist all those sparks in that trench coat, I have to say the way he was walking in that coat (and this is probably going to sound crazy), for some reason it reminded me of John Travolta in "Michael."

John T... can't ... yuck...
I get that Dean and Bobby were convinced Sam had done something... But seriously, after that apology, I can't believe Dean would still have doubts. THAT's why I thought his doubts in the car were a bit off...

Oh, in the car...well (I think) he did believe that Sam didn't do anything to get him out, but he was still worried that Sam had tried to do something with the powers (which he has, so he has a right to distrust him ). I think he wanted to make sure--for him, so time has passed, so he's operating as the same pre-hell Dean, who can be a tad overprotective (tad being an understatement). Of course, I had a little issue with Sam being all, "It was your dying wish" but obviously he has been honing those powers! Ooh, I just thought of something else that bothered me--frakking CW does NOTHING to promote this show, then through the ENTIRE episode their stupid logo is on my scree, right across Dean Sam, and Castiel's beautiful faces!!! John T... can't ... yuck...Well, I just meant with the whole trenchcoat and suit thing (that and both of them being angels! )

I knew...
Here's my thought... If Castiel's the big bad powerful, or fighting it, or powerful enough to burn eyes out... WHAT THE HECK DOES HE NEED DEAN FOR?

WHO has got better VIDEO?
When Sam banishes Seelix, aren't his eyes black when he opens them? Or is it just shadows?
And again... don't like this Ruby at all.

Hey--I thought the same thing about Sam's eyes!!! I think it was just the dark lighting, though.
I've read other posts that say Castiel needs Dean because he (Castiel) is not allowed to interfere in earthly matters, therefore he needs a person to do his work for him. Sounds reasonable. It seems like the kind of question Dean would ask--couldn't you see him being all snarky lie, "You're an angel. What the hell do you need me for?" Hopefully we'll get that question and answer.
I don't like the Ruby stuff either (and after watching again, I don't really care for the actress). Ruby had attitude, she hated Dean, and now she's trying to be all understanding and 'I'll step back," like she's a girlfriend who's getting in the way of her boyfriend's relationship with is brother? Please. She is so leading Sam on (I think). Of course, I'm sure Castiel has hi own agenda, too, but I can get behind him ore because a)he's hot, b)he has cool wings, and c)he can act.

Can I also add, (and I did like the episode, really) I don't like the over-the-top psychic... The only thing she provided was the hysterical, "You ARE NOT INVITED." She was too much.

Now, I kind of liked her (and I thought she was better than the girl who's playing Ruby).
I really liked Seelix--I wish they had found a way to keep her!
