From cwtv.com:
After receiving a frantic call from Sam, who has been missing for over a week, Dean races to his brother's side. He finds Sam covered in blood, but unable to remember anything that happened.
Upon investigation, the brothers are horrified to discover a tape that shows Sam killing another hunter in cold blood, causing Sam to believe his evil side is finally taking over.
Cathryn Humphris wrote the episode directed by J. Miller Tobin.

I just have a crazy theory ... what if it was Joe who tipped of Crazy Jesus Man (the one who later worked with Gordon) about Sam killing that hunter? If she believed what possessed Sam told her about her Dad and the way he died, she might want to get her revenge that way.
Okay, it really sounds crazy. I'm going back to writing.

I like your theory, Silke! I can see that. Especially after Sam went on and on about how Dean only sees Jo as a sister.
This was a creepy episode. Sam with Demon eyes...shudder....

2 Questions that Yor and I have about this episode as we watch.
1) Is it Sam the whole time or is Meg faking?
2) Why does Meg (Sam) go to Jo??
(I'm a little tipsy so I hope these questions make sense... ;D)

I kept wondering about the first one too (and thanks for asking, I was starting to believe I was the only one *g*).
After watching this episode, um, VERY often, I think Meg is controlling him the whole time. He keeps finding clues at the most convenient times, i.e. the key, the receipt, or how he suddenly knew which way to go to this hunter's house. So, I'm afraid, all this time it was Meg.
As for Jo, I think Meg wanted Dean to find them. I think she wanted him to kill Sam as her own revenge for sending her back to hell (and isn't it strange that she came back so fast?), using Jo as bait to convince Dean that Sam is really evil. Or something like that.
Does any of this makes sense?

It makes perfect sense, Sil, and I agree with you on both counts. I also wondered whether or not Sam ever came out, but I think what seals the deal for me with that is the scene in the motel room, where "Sam" is acting like Sam right until he bashed Dean in the head with the gun. Then we see how good Meg is at being Sam.
I think this was all a game for her, to torture Dean for sending her back to hell (I want to know if she's still there!), and what better way than to try to get him to kill Sam.

Dang... You all give her a lot of credit. I really think perhaps she slipped "out" of control and let Sam take some of the initial lead... His shock in the beginning is SO genuine? But alas, I'm probably wrong.

It could be his psychic abilities that helped him. Though I don't think he would have managed to stay in control for very long.

If it is really him in the beginning, would he not know he was possessed? The girl Meg was possessing had mentioned to the boys and Bobby that she knew. Wouldn't Sam have tried to let Dean know that Meg was in there with him? Or did he just not realise what was happenening?

I'm not sure where I heard/read this, but I think it's different with everybody. Some remember instantly, some doesn't. I think this was said on the show, but it's also possible that I read it in a fic ... I just don't remember, sorry.
When Meg was exorcised, Sam was confused though at first and didn't know what had happened. So he might not have found out about the possession in time before Meg got back in control.
