From cwtv.com:
Sam, Dean and John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) were left for dead after the Demon plowed a semi into the Impala.
Now, one of the Winchesters hovers between life and death as the surviving family must face an old and powerful adversary.
Eric Kripke wrote the episode directed by Kim Manners.

I just realized that in this episode, Dean was close to becoming the very thing he's hunting for the first time. The Reaper told him that if he stayed, he would become an angry spirit. And later Ruby tells him that he might end up as a Demon. Maybe it's his destiny and not Sam's to end up evil.

Yep, I've wondered that as well. Wouldn't it be ironic if it ended up that Sam may have to kill Dean because he's evil instead of the other way around?

Okay, tell me John isn't really dead. Now I really need to go to sleep. Excellent stuff those last three episodes. G'night.

I wish I could tell you otherwise... But remember, it is supernatural. He can come back and haunt the boys! That's our wish!

The actor who plays John is a VERY busy man But like YOR said, we're still hoping they'll find a way to bring him back at some point. Nothing's impossible in Supernatural

You're kiddin'! He doesn't even appear any more???!!! Really it's a big waste of an incredible on-screen relationship. All the scenes with the three of them were the best moments of the show so far. Oh, I guess we can't have it three-way. On BSG we have father/son without a brother, and here we have brother/brother without a dad.

Now I'm confused. You said you WISH they found the way to bring him back... Fine. I wish too.

ok, so now I'm watching this one...
I'm channeling my man. When he tells John to go to hell... *argh* Whole new meaning now. AND then I was struck by the devotion he showed his dad when he discovers the reaper and says, "dad'll know what to do." There isn't a doubt in his mind. His dad will know. ARGH! My man!

Yes, despite all their fights, Sam never lost faith in him.
