From cwtv.com:
After Sam has several haunting dreams, he persuades a reluctant Dean to return with him to their childhood home for the first time. They find much more to battle with than painful memories when the house's current occupants, a single mother with two young children, experience terrifying supernatural phenomena, just as in Sam's nightmares. The boys track down an eccentric local psychic, Missouri Mosley (guest star Loretta Devine, "Waiting to Exhale," "Crash"), who is mentioned in their father's journal, and together the three fight to rid the house of powerful spirits. But before they can stop what's happening now, they have to face what happened when they lived there - including their mother's horrible death. Amazing twists and revelations await Sam and Dean on their most personal mission yet.
The episode was written by Eric Kripke and directed by Ken Girotti.

Had me a "duh" ;D moment watching this today...
I NEVER occured to me that when Sam is getting the kids out of the house and he puts them down in the foyer, he tells Seri the SAME thing his Dad told Dean when he got Sam out of the house...
Did the writers do it on purpose? No idea.. but me likey...

I noticed that too. I think they did it on purpose; it would be too much of a coincidence if they didn't. I too like it a lot.

I just love Missouri. The way she talks to Dean is hilarious!
The kid getting locked in the frig is freaky though. And I have to fast forward the part where the guy gets his arm caught in the disposal.

Have you ever seen the Paley footage over at YouTube? They ask everyone on stage (both boys, Kim Manners, Kripke, Bob Singer, and one other guy who I can't remember) what their favorite scene was (I think the Paley thing was done during season1, so that's all they had to choose from). Everyone picks these really awesome scenes, most of them having some sort of emotional context, and Kripke picks the scene where the guy loses his arm!

LOL Yes, that's Kripke *g*
I don't fastforward, but I always look away when that scene comes.

I fast forward now through just about anything that doesn't contain one of the boys...

While I don't fast forward through the arm scene, I do cringe and look away (or at least hide my face and peek through my fingers).

Urgh, the arm scene was disgustng. <puke> The kid in a fridge was cringeworthy, too. But the scene where Dean calls Dad and is all Emo... Gads, I thought the show was starting to bore me, but this scene brought me right back to it. Are there more scenes like this? And WHAT IS ALL THE MYSTERY ABOUT??? No, don't tell me!

Are there more scenes like this?Oh hell, YES! They get even better, just wait!!! The scene at the gas station is what turned me full force into a Deangirl ... I just love Jensen's acting there! I wouldn't dare tell you about the mystery. The less you're spoiled, the more you can enjoy the show. It's an awesome mystery! And not boring at all, I can assure you that. At this point, the show is just starting to get really, really intense.

The Dean/Jensen scene where he calls John gets me everytime! He was spot on in that one. I also liked him telling Sam about the night of the fire. I loved the look on Sam's face when he realised that Dean carried him out of the house (I was shocked that he didn't know that). This was one of the things I liked about season 1--how they start to learn about each other again, or learn things they never knew.

Yes, the fact that Sam didn't know that Dean carried him out of the house was a big surprise for me, but then, perhaps they weren't talking about it much. It's very likely.

Still one of my favorite episodes, as long as I fast forward through the arm and frig scenes...
When they see their mom... ARGH!
