I really liked this... Hero Dean, and devastated Sam who realizes exactly how horrible he's been...
This line I thought was lovely...
Thing is, he knows Sam, always has, always will, despite what the kid might think. Dean knows that, underneath all the lies and the demon blood, Sam wanted more than anything to be the hero for once. He wanted to save the world, save his brother, and for once not to be the freak.
This particular section goes on to sum things up well, I believe...

I didn't mean it as a bad thing... And I do. He's a total hero. He's keeping Sam going... pushing him through all of it... anticipating his needs and issues... He's a hero. He's pushing when he needs to, backing off when he needs to... That's Hero Dean.

Hmm, I never saw that as a hero thing ... just something that comes natural.

It was heroic to me... He had many choices of response... as we saw in recent episodes. (He hadn't been responding that way.)
