When you say "Lord", do you refer to God or Jesus?

For me, I'm referring to Jesus. That's my personal belief. Although in the Old Testament, LORD is used for Jehovah, God. In the New Testament, Lord is Jesus.
Confused? LOL ;D

Wow--good question. I've never really thought about it. When we're in church, we say "Lord, Jesus Christ," but like jensenbabe said, in the Old Testament, Lord referred to God. For me, personally, I always distinguished between God and Jesus and don't use Lord (unless it's in a prayer).
I'm guessing that you're asking because of what Castiel says? You know, the Trinity is the threein one--the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--so the writers may be using that idea and use Lord meaning God, or they may be using the Old Testament meaning.

Someone on LJ brought it up. This person said that because Castiel said the Lord, he would have to mean Jesus. So far I had always thought the Lord meant God. So it can mean both? Thanks for the explanation

I would guess some of it would depend on your religion/beliefs. In church, we've also said, "Lord, God, Father..." so, yes, it could mean both. I don't know enough about other religions to know what they believe, though.

I think it's just a person's personal belief. You can't go wrong using it either way. JMO

For what it's worth, I've always practiced Lord as God.

When I actively practiced Christianity(I was brought up Methodist), Lord was referred to as God and Jesus. I think it depends on your belief. Most of the time when referring to Angels, think Catholic as most of the stories on the angels come from the Catholic doctrine. I also believe most angels when referring to "LORD" mean god. In all of the Prophecy movies and Constantine, the Angels talked about Lord being God not Jesus.

Yes, you would. Believe it or not, my reference point is literally those movies I mentioned and the fact I cannot remember an instance angels were referred to by name except when Gabriel came to Elizabeth and Mary to announce they would give birth to John the Baptist and Jesus. I did pay attention during Sunday School once in a while!

What's kind of funny, is a few weeks ago we went to breakfast with Shawn's parents after church, and I had mentioned that if our girl had been a boy, she would have been named Gabriel, which then led to a discussion my MIL had with my son about the Archangels.
My point--I dont know! ;D I just saw Jordayna mention Gabriel, and I remembered this!

I always liked the name Gabriel for both a boy and girl!
You know, I have an idea about a fic from this discussion. Now whether I write it down will be a whole other story.....
