I have no idea how I've seen that scene, but it bugged the hell out of me (no pun intended). Still trying to fic it out, but I can't even do that. ;D Maybe I'll have to go for Sam's PoV and what AL said?

I saw it more like: "I saw such horrible things and I can't tell you about it because I don't want you to know how bad, horrible, awful a place there is. I want you to stay in the dark and keep your innocence and not be afraid every time you close your eyes."
Considering what they do for a living, where they'd been, what they've got to battle, hiding Sam from the realities of hell is unrealistic and almost silly. It's an insult. We all know hell is bad. Isn't fear created more by the unknown?
By keeping Sam "in the dark" isn't he perpetuating the fear and mystic, hence the power of hell to a certain degree? That's why Dean comes across as selfish or arrogant to me.
In what world is a trauma victim ever allowed to keep the experience to themselves in order to find healing? Never. So Dean's never going to "heal" from this? He's always going to be the long suffering martyr? I expect better of Dean.
However, I'm not allowing myself to get sucked in to this. This is further than I've already wanted to go. I've decided not to dwell on these things as it isn't worth it. Future episodes will reveal more and put things in differing lights.
And in the long run, it's all about the ride...
And yes Silke, of course the show will be on tape... We will watch first thing Sunday night.

I think that hell is so bad, that everything they've battled before pales in comparison. And yes Silke, of course the show will be on tape... We will watch first thing Sunday night. I knew I could count on you!

See, now, I don't see it that way. When people go through something horrific, I would think at first they wouldn't want to talk about it, because it brings it all back, and I think, right now, as I belive yor said, he's trying not to think about it. And when people suffer from something like PTSD, I would think it would be easier to talk to someone other than a family member (not that Dean's going to do something like that, though, unless maybe he talks to Bobby or Castiel?), but I don't think he would want to give Sam those nightmares. Plus, Sam's on that slippery slope anyways because of Dean's death (as shown by his "Lilith's head on aplate...bloddy"). Dean's not going to want to give him more ammuntion, so to speak. Nor, is he going to want Sam to feel guilty, and he would, naturally (something like, "You suffered all that for me. It's my fault" kind of thing). Personally, I don't find it selfish or arrogant, I actually find it normal behavior, especially given what we've seen about Dean's character. And why would he want to tell someone else what hell is like? There probably aren't words for it, as he said, which is enough to tell me it's awful. Dean's never been the "caring and sharing" kind. Now, I will say, I don't think it's healthy for Dean to keep it all in, but he's right, Sam wouldn't understand, and Dean doesn't want to spread those nightmares to his brother. Plus, while his tone may have sounded funny to some, I think he said it the way he said it to get Sam off his back about it, like "Yes, I remember, but no, I'm not going to tell you, so drop it." Dean dropped it with Sam in "Metamophisis" when Sam asked him to, I hope Sam will give Dean the same respect. And, if the tables were reversed and Sam was the one who went to hell, I don't think he would share, either. The whole Winchester clan is emotionally dysfunctional! ;D
