I had to fight for the TV... Turns out three of us watch three different shows at the same time. I WON! (I claimed it first.)
Poor Dean... Poor Sam... Poor KIDS! *Kripke, leave HS kids alone. They have enough problems!* Excellent ending!

First, the two things that really annoyed me about this episode: 1) Why do the boys insist on wearing their jackets indoors? 2) How many frakking commercials are needed in the course of one episode?? Geez...and I cringed everytime a "Gossip Girl" one came on! Ugh! The show---I felt a little underwhelmed by this one. I went spoiler free shortly after reading about the sides from this one (based on some of the sides, there was suddenly alot a Dean-bashing I was reading which made me decide I didn't want to know). I absolutely loved the beginning when they both called the other on keeping things to themselves (it's about time). When the girl saw her mom in the computer, I jumped about a mile high! I could have done with more brother stuff, especially where there father was concerned. They both acted in character to me, and I can definitely see Dean starting to break a little more. I decided after this episode that I want to see him go to hell more than ever (I know, I'm evil). He should face that fear, and come out on the other side of it (just like Sam and his going-evil thing). The ending was great--they both broke my heart. On first watch, I didn't like Dean's response to Sam's "And me." But when I watched it again, I realised it was very Dean-like, his way of dealing with the touchy-feely moment he'd just had (and I loved the little smirk he had when he handed Sam the beer). And, even with all this, I still felt a little underwhelmed. I really don't know why. The preview for next week's episode do nothing for me--shouldn't we be dealing with the deal? It almost makes me want to be spoiled--notice I said "almost." JA and JP were awesome this episode, but how I would have loved to have some ending where we saw John, like maybe he had really contacted Dean somehow. Oh well, if wishes were fishes (then Dean would be mine ).

I'm too tired right now to come up with something good (and what a stupid idea was it to watch this ep right before going to bed!!!). I'm just going to say: I loved it!!!! All the scenes with the brothers together ... awesome!!! Two things that had been bothering me: 1) Sam driving a rental car ... that's just wrong LOL 2) When Dean gets the first call from John, he and Sam are wearing suits. When they talk about the call in the motel, they're wearing their normal clothes again. So what? They changed first and then decided to talk about it? You'd think that a call from their dead Dad would be more important than wearing the right clothes Okay, now I'm off to bed. Good night everyone

Yeah, I had a chuckle about the rental car myself. You know what they could have done? They could have talked about the phone call from their dad while changing their clothes! When was the last time we even got one-layer of clothing? ??

Oh yes, that's what they should have done LOL I had to fight for the TV... Turns out three of us watch three different shows at the same time. I WON! (I claimed it first.)Good for you Okay, I'm less cranky today, so here's what I loved about the ep: Everything! The brother keeping secrets from each other and calling each other on it. And Dean, being so desperate to to be saved, that he's willing to try everything. I LOVED that conversation between Sam and Dean in the end! It made me wondering though ... Sam seemed so calm. I got the feeling like he's hiding something else from Dean ... maybe he knows about a way to save Dean that he hasn't told Dean yet? Because Dean would never agree to that plan? Hmm ... On first watch, I didn't like Dean's response to Sam's "And me." But when I watched it again, I realised it was very Dean-like, his way of dealing with the touchy-feely moment he'd just had (and I loved the little smirk he had when he handed Sam the beer)I loved it from the beginning You're right, it's so Dean. He spilled his heart out, caused a "chickflick-moment" and this is his way to say it's over, let's get back to normal. This ep also finally convinced me to not watch any preview clips for the show again. The scene where Dean tells Sam about John's call and then accuses him of butting heads with their Dad even when he's dead ... I LOVED it! And I would have enjoyed it much more if I hadn't seen it before. So, from now on, no previews for me again.

ok... here's my two cents.
I LOVED Sam driving the rental car. I thought it was fraught with imagry. For example, Sam, had he been left alone at Stanford and gone to law school, would most likely have driven a fancy new car with auto-locks. It was what he was supposed to do.
Secondly, it further emphasized the fact that he's about to be on his own. He could do what he liked. He might just opt to store the Impala and do things his own way.
I loved it.
Secondly, I also loved the end. It was needed after the drama and intensity.
I don't think watching the preview clip dampened anything for me. I was actually very grateful as I HAD to go to the bathroom BADLY and as soon as the clip started, I knew I was safe to run. *blush*
I too freaked out when the mom appeared on screen, and didn't need the brother in there at all.
I also enjoyed the beginning with the confrontation. I was with Sam... let's keep fighting... He wanted to push on. Makes me think about your question as to whether Sam knows more.
I'm with Mick. I enjoyed it, but there was something about it I didn't love.

You know, I've read a couple of reviews, and in them they mention that Sam and Dean were acting out of character. They basically said Dean was too willing to believe it was his father, not to mention that he went to take the supposed demon out, seeming to forget the "Sam will die" clause; they also felt Sam was too cold towards Dean, that he kind of blew Dean and how he was feeling off, instead focusing on the case.
There did seem, to me anyway, that there was a disconnect with the boys. They were with each other, but they weren't (does that make sense?). I wonder if it was intentional? Now that the end is almost here, they are each dealing with their own issues with it and can't really connect with the other.
I think that's what I felt was wrong with it--it's like they aren't connecting with each other. There's this chasm between them.
Either that or the writing was way off.
And I wasn't a fan of the monologuing by the MotW, either. I also noticed that, for the second week in a row, Sam is not only captured by the baddie, but he watched someone die right in front of him. I don't know, but to me, that felt kind of redundant.

I noted the death in front of Sammy too... and was wondering if it is planned or poor writing...
Actually, if I think about it as you described Mick, it makes the episode better. They are and would be disconnected... They are both in different spots. No matter what, neither can understand where the other is???
Hmmm.... you've given me much food for thought.

He might just opt to store the Impala and do things his own way.NO WAY!!!! He would NEVER do that!!!! It's the family car!!! I too thought the brothers felt disconnected somehow, but then there was this ending where once again Dean spoke about his fears. And even though Sam seemed to held back in that scene, they did feel more "connected" after that to me. Two deaths in front of Sammy ... I can't believe it's bad writing. This is SPN, after all! Even the episodes I didn't like so much had amazing writing (except Bugs maybe, but there's always the exception from the rule ). I think they are building up to something ... maybe after having to witness innocent people die again and again, without being able to do something against it, changes something in Sam. Up until the point where he'd do anything to save the next victim - like using his powers again maybe?

If he feels he can't care for the Impala as it should be... He could save it... In my opinion, it HAS to be an option for Sam or he would cease to be Sam. He can't change who he is because his brother and dad are dead. He has always and should always do things in his way... I believe that would include the POSSIBILITY of CONSIDERING using a different vehicle. John did after all! Now I'll be disappointed if these people dying in front of Sam is for nothing or coincidence...

Bradic captured some of our thoughts in the review.... But as the crocotta observed about humans and our technology, while the brothers are closer than ever before, they’ve each also never been more alone. Throughout the episode, they constantly came together and then moved apart both physically and emotionally, right from their opening scene on the university campus. Apart from their shared visits to the dead man’s house, the telephone company, and the museum, we seldom saw them acting in concert. They connected, they argued, they separated and went their own ways. In the end, however, they came together and stayed, and that was the most important thing. While I can honestly say I had never given any thought to what Sam would do with the Impala if something happened to Dean, you guys have made me think about it, and I do think there would be a chance he would give it up. I don't think he would sell it or anything--maybe he'd just store it at Bobby's. I think he would try to get away from the memories, and that would include not being in the Impala.

yeah, Mick... that's what I'm thinking... I could sooo see him storing it at Bobby's and driving it only on special occasions, like birthdays, death anniversaries, etc.
