Dean (Jensen Ackles) begins to think the only way to stop Lucifer is to say yes to Michael, but the angels decide they don't need him anymore. Dean, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Castiel (Misha Collins) are horrified at the angels' new game plan and take on Zachariah (guest star Kurt Fuller) to prevent an all out war on Earth. Meanwhile, a familiar face returns.
Phil Sgrricia directed the episode written by Jeremy Carver.

Did Dean just doom my man to fail with that faith?
I hope not, but in fairness to Dean, he did see the future, and, in it, Sam says "yes."
You know, I didn't like the third brother thing last season, and I still don't like it. There's nothing wrong with the actor, I just don't care for the story.
I thought Dean being Michael's vessel was due to more than his blood (you know, the whole "man who starts it is the only one who can end it" spiel).
I think I'm going to need to rewatch this one, though. I don't know why, but I'm kind of "eh" about it right now.
I know that I have always enjoyed KFuller as Zac and will miss him.
Question--up to now, have we seen anyone other than an angel or demon kill an angel? I had read somewhere that it was stated in the show that only an angel can kill an angel, but I can't remember when. If so, what does that mean about Dean? Also, did his eyes change when killing Zac?
One thing I really likes--that wink he gave Sam! Yowza!!! There was something about it that was hot!!!

It was Hot... the spark was back. It's one of the reasons I'm loving Sam... his passion is so high. And seeing it from Dean was what we all needed!!!!!
I assumed it was because he had the special angel killing stick...

I assumed it was because he had the special angel killing stick.
Right, but I still thought that only an angel could use that on another angel and have it work (wasn't there something about that last season in "On the Head of a Pin?") Also, Dean looked an angel straight in the face and his eyes weren't burned out. I wonder why???
I've decided that, while the acting was top-notch in this one, the episode as whole kind of irritated me. There's so much that the writers (I think) have forgotten that as a viewer, I haven't. I feel like we've seen all this before, just in different circumstances.
Ugh, I am so ready for this whole apocalypse-thing to be over!!!

I admire your eye for detail. With so much other crap going on, I have none. I was just glad for an hour of escape with my boys.

Dang, I just wrote a nice long review and all of a sudden it disappeared! Wha!!! Anyhow, I do believe there is more to Dean than what we know right now. Remember in last weeks episode he was able to kill the "whore" when the minister was the only one who was able to, and now this week Dean is able to kill an an angel. I don't think the writers forgot, I think it is a clue, to what, I have no idea. Dean's eyes did seem a strange color during the killing of Zack, but that could have been the weird bright lights coming our of Zack.
I also think that Adam was never meant to be Michael's vessel, he was lied to. Dean is the one and only true vessel for Michael. Adam might be able to be a temporary one like Lucifer's current vessel. I wonder what happened to Adam? Gone back to heaven or being temporarily worn by Michael?
I do believie Dean was at his low point. I think Adam kinda reminded him about family, and Sam calling Dean his big brother brought it home. When he winked at Sam, my heart soared. I just knew that he was coming back. He did apologize to Sam (again) and he seemed sincere. Hopefully, now that the two are on the same page, the world might be saved.
I was glad that Dean killed Zack. He needed killing.
I wonder where Cas is? I hope he can forgive Dean. I'm hoping he never beats Dean up again, that scene kinda disturbed me.
I need to rewatch this ep, a lot going on.

I LOVED Cas beating on Dean. Dean getting a Cas beat down? It's been a long time in coming! Course, where was Cas when SAM needed one?

I hope he can forgive Dean
I think he needs to ask Dean for forgiveness. Dean wasn't quitting--no one else could come up with a better plan. Dean was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Whether he says yes or no, millions of people are going to die. It's a choice between whether it's heaven on Earth or hell on Earth. Dean saw--in the episode before this on--what people could and would do to each other. He also knows from first-hand experience what hell is like. I'm sure, if he had to choose between the two, he'd rather people have to life in the "memorex" world than in hell.
The show has yet to really say why it's wrong for Dean to say yes.
The beat-down Cas gave Dean made me lose some of my love for Cas. Dean didn't force Cas to leave heaven. Has Cas forgotten his own role in the start of all this? He's the one that let Sam out of the panic room that allowed him to get to Lilith and kill her.
See, this is just one of my many complaints about this episode!

Except Cas has shown us time and time again, these angels can't be trusted, SO why should we trust ANYTHING they have said. I think that's the point. Dean shouldn't trust anything he's been shown in the future either. I can understand why Cas feels betrayed. Dean was the one who TOLD him to rebel and make the choice which led to his fall. Dean is the reason he is cut off. Now Dean says it was for nothing and he's going to do what the Angels wanted him to do all along?
The choice is be pawns or not. If neither agrees to be a vessel, will the whole plan eventually fall apart? No big bad end because both big baddies would be ultimately too weak to win?

these angels can't be trusted
True, but I think maybe Dean was going for "the lesser of two evils" thing. Like he said, if he does nothing, then millions of people die, and it's hell on Earth. If he accepts, millions of people die, and it's--maybe--paradise on Earth. There is no third option that they have managed to find, and they know it's getting close to the end.
ETA: I don't think Dean trusts them, either. He told Adam the angels were up to something right away. He was at a place where he didn't know what else to do.
If neither agrees to be a vessel,
Unfortunately, I think they will. In my totally unspoiled opinion, I fear that Kripke will go there because he thinks we, as fans, don't think he will (kind of like Dean going to hell--I read an interview where he said part of the reason he sent him was for the shock, that the fans really thought that Sam would find a last minute save). I hope not, because I would like to see them win back the planet on their own. I have a theory as to why Sam would say yes, but I haven't figured out one for Dean, unless it's because he said yes in this episode and, even though he didn't say it directly to Michael's face, he's still bound by it or something.
