another heart breaker, but for different reasons. My heart broke for both boys. Sam admitted his need. he asked for help. He didn't deny his problem; he didn't lie or cover. As always, I found myself wondering what other solution they had. I think Dean and Cas knew it too, but none of them liked it. Dean... poor Dean. I think they're just playing on his doubts, but... Ugh. His plea at the end was heart breaking, especially knowing God is no where to be found at the moment, so who was he calling to? Ie He really isn't dead! NOW WAITING? ARGH!

Just because no one can find God, doesn't mean he's not listening There's one big thing about this episode that I didn't like. They said John's and Mary's love wasn't real love, but "arranged love" because of the blood lines. According to Cupid, they didn't even like each other before he "shot his arrow at them". I want to ignore this part of canon history as much as I want to (and still do) ignore "Hero" from BSG. I find it awful! I agree with you on Sam. I liked that he was honest about it. Poor guy, he has to go through all that again and this time, it wasn't even really his fault.

Okay, I have to admit that I could not watch the opening to this episode--I had to cover my eyes and turn away. GROSS!!!
At the end of this one, the one thought that went through my head is how both boys are tragic characters. I've never really thought that before.
Loved that Sam admitted he was having the desire to drink the blood; however, I worry about him, because I don't think the addiction is to the blood as much as it is to the power he gets from it.
I don't quite know what to think about the whole John/Mary thing.
What really bothered me was Dean standing around at the end with Famine (who was really creepy, by the way--great casting!). Why didn't he just chop his finger off? He went for the knife, then just stood there. It was either poor writing or poor directing, but either way, that whole scene felt very off to me.
I agree with Yor--I think the demons like playing on Dean's doubts. I also thought for sure at the end that he was going to say "yes." I felt so bad for him, too. I'm starting to think that he may be the one who caves first (as much as I don't want either one of them to do so).
I wonder if the brotherly relationship will be different now???

They're not really out there. I don't go out of my way, but if I see something, I will read it. So far, all I've really seen are episode titles and names of guest stars.

Me too! I even put a pillow in front of my face, so I wouldn't have to look.

I thought that was weird too. I kept thinking, Go Dean! Cut off the darn finger!!! I thought maybe he was taken by surprise at Sam's sudden appearance and the blood on his face? That's why it took him longer to react than normal?
I agree with Yor--I think the demons like playing on Dean's doubts.
Something I just thougt about. Famine made everyone's desires grow immensely, right? Maybe it was Dean's desire to not feel anything anymore and that's why he was so off this episode? No hunger, no lust, nothing at all?

I thought this at first, too, but then thinking more, this isn't the first time he has seen Sam like this. I don't know--I still think it was more a direction/writing issue, like maybe they wanted us, as the viewing audience, to see Sam using his powers again.
Maybe it was Dean's desire to not feel anything anymore and that's why he was so off this episode
Yep, I think it was something like this. Plus, Dean has always indulged himself, so to speak. If he wants to eat, he eats. If he wants female companionship, he finds it. I think what he truly wants is peace, for all this to be over, but he knows that will never happen.
