because, you know, they don't already have a GREAT show in their program!
Ain't that the truth!
I also think the CW is hoping that fans of the original 90210 will watch. Two of the original cast members--who apparently didn't get along well at all at the time--are going to be in the new version. And, they do have Rob Estes playing the dad (who I used to have a thing for back when he was on "Silk Stalkings").

If they're really trying to get the old fans to watch, they're doing it wrong. Because really, we are all older now! Teenage drama isn't quite as fascinating as it used to be when you're around 30 years old. If they'd show reruns of the old show, that might made me watch it just for the sake of memory (if I'd be able to watch the CW, that is), but this new show is doing nothing for me.

Here, they do show reruns of the original on SoapNet, and they've been advertising the new show on that channel as well (the channel is owned by ABC/Disney, I think--at night it shows the episodes that aired that same day of all the ABC soaps, and also "The Young and the Restless" and "Days of Our Lives," not to mention other teen-angst dramas like "One Tree Hill").
Yeah, the new show does nothing for me, either. I watched the original, but not faithfully (but I remember my younger sister was a big fan of it). I think it was one of those shows that actually went on too long.

I watched the first few seasons and was a big fan (I had the right age back then *grin*), but I stopped eventually. I guess you're right, it went on too long.

I didn't really watch the original... (I was already in college.) and I've no plan to even check this one out. I think I watched the premier because the Walsh's were from Minnesota.

I think I was still in the Dora and Big Comfy Couch stage when the original was on. Wikipedia said the original was on for ten years. That is a bit long to run drama. On an unrelated note they're ruining CSI. Sorry, for some reason the discussion of how long running programs produce spinoffs reminded me of this.

Kitty, I'm starting to lose interest in CSI as well, which is a shame, because I loved that show in the beginning. But with all the spin-offs it's just not as special anymore as it used to be. In a way, it's good that Kripke is ending SPN after five seasons. We will mourn the show forever, but we'll never say: Ah, okay, I'll skip this episode, it's kinda boring ... oh, it's over after ten years? Ah, well, it's about time. SPN will get the ending it deserves, which is so much better And we can still hope for a movie afterwards every once in a while ... that's seems to be the new trend, after all.

True, I just hope they give it a good ending. A not open ended ending. Then again when your fighting against hell...
I'll be glad if Supernatural gets 5 seasons, I think if it ran for ten years they would run out of main character to kill off then bring back.
Supernatural the Movie, now that would be cool.

LOL That's true.
Kripke said he knew exactly how the show would end, so I don't think we have to worry about a bad ending.
