Awesome episode! I loved the pie discussion in the beginning *g*
Malo, I had been hoping for Jess as well. She was basically the first victim in all this, it would have been nice to see her. I guess it was either a schedule or budget problem.
I'm starting to come around on the angel story. I actually love Kripke's angel. They're not these nice, lovely, fluffy guys, they're God's Army! They're here to fight and kick some ass. I love that Ruby is terrified of them and I liked the look she gave Sam when he said he wasn't afraid of angels. Maybe he should? If they shoot first and ask questions later, some of them could see him as the bad guy.
How did everyone find out about Castiel, btw? Until Dean met Castiel, the demons had no idea. And now everyone knows? How?
I loved the scene in which Dean just couldn't grasp why God would save him of all people. He simply can't understand what's making him so important. Bobby's look spoke volumes; I think he understands more than even Sam how low Dean really thinks of himself.
I liked Dean's questions, some of them I asked myself. If God is real, why is he letting all this happening? I've been thinking about this during the episode. If he needs an army to beat the bad guys, he can't be THAT powerful. He can't just lift a finger and the world will be all right. He's the guy giving the orders, but he's not allmighty (I hope this doesn't sound too blasphemic). Also, he's given us a few chances to make the world better. He gave us paradise - we screwed that up. He send the flood (Sintflut?) to make the world better and look what we did with that - the world went right back to being bad. He gave us his son and we killed him. So how many more chances is he supposed to give us? Assuming the bible is right on everything, it makes sense that for 2000 years, he and his army just laid back and watched. They only started to interfere when one of their own (Lucifer is a fallen angel, right?) threatens to come back to earth - it would destroy the "balance", hence they need to interfere.
All of this has nothing to do with my faith, it's just me rambling.

Oh, and I LOVE that there is a second war going on, one that no one knows about. There are angels and demons (?) fighting and dying and trying to safe/destroy earth and we don't notice any of this. Except when the angels lose, we feel the consequences.
I was also surprised that Dean was so open with Sam about Castiel; I too had thought he would keep it a secret for a bit longer. That would have been a good time for Sam to open up himself.
And last but not least - when Sam was jammed behind that closet, for a moment I thought he would use his powers to get free. He must be REALLY scared (or worried) about Dean finding out.

And I LOVED seeing Ronald again!!! I knew about Meg and Hendrickson, but not about Ronald. I like Ronald

I liked Ronald too. Although when he said he was going to eat Dean...ick! Creepy!
I read a book called Piercing the Darkness while in College. It gave a view into the war between Angels and Demons. Very fascinating. There's another book with it but I can't remember the name.
You know who else would have been interesting? Andy, Ava and the rest of the group from AHBL Pt 1. Someone also mentioned it would have been neat if Layla from Season One's Faith appeared. Since she had a brain tumor the person felt it was kind of a given that she would have been dead by now. That would have really gotten to Dean, don't you think?

Hmm, I don't know about Ava, because she ended up trying to kill Sam and the others. But Andy and Layla, yes, definitely! And Madison!
The book sounds interesting.

So, upon a second rewatch, here are my thoughts: ---Who knew there were so many hunters out there? ---I chuckled at Dean smelling the pizza! It must have really smelled bad if he didn't eat it! ---I love the little touch Dean gave his shoulder when seeing the picture of the angel in Bobby's book, and then again looking at his shoulder when Bobby mentioned the brands the spirits had. I don't know if it was the director's choice or Jensen's, but it's the little things like this that I think sets the show apart from others. ---I LOL at the pie stuff! ---The gore! Man, talk about some blood! But, for me, it was worse to hear Henrickson talk about what Lilith did to them. Poor Nancy. ---I loved Jared's facial expressions in this one, especially the smile at the beginning when he and Bobby were talking about angels to Dean, the one where he was saying (well, it's what it looked like to me). "Told ya so." ---On the other end--and this is so nitpicky, but it made me laugh--at the end, when Sam and Dean are talking, Jared moves his hair out of the way. The way he did it seems so Jared and not Sam (and I could have sworn he gave a small "blue steel" face!). ---Man, this show manages to find some creepy looking kids! ---LOVE Meg! Her words to Dean, about being "ridden by evil" and about how her little sister got lost after her death--they have a lot in common. And I also love that she called Sam on the fact that he was working with Ruby. She spoke some words that should really get to both the boys. ---So, Bobby has this huge panic room, and an upstairs, and the boys sleep in the living room? ---How did the creppy kids get Bobby into the car? Did he go hide there and they followed? ---There are way too many commercials! ---Still love the Dean/Castiel scene. Castiel gets all up in Dean's personal face. Dean seemed genuinely afraid of Castiel, too. I'm looking forward to more between these two. ---Still hope Ruby stays away, but I'm just not that lucky! ---Bobby is awesome! Despite the episode seeming slow in a few spots, overall I loved it. I loved seeing the return of Meg, Victor, and Ronald. There were some great lines--"I'm not a cheeseburger," "...airlift your ass out of the hot spot." The seals--here's my speculation (I'll black it out incase no one wants to know)--- I had a thought that one of them is the amulet. I don't know how that would work, though. The other thought is that Sam is one, and it could bring the whole 'Save him or kill him" full circle.*** I'm glad that Dean let Sammy know about Castiel (although, I'm sure Sam wouldn't have accepted anything but the truth after what Castiel did to the hotel room last episode!). I wonder if he'll tell Sam about the seals (I think he didn't say anything right away because, at first, he wasn't sure if it was a dream, and then he needs some time to think about it). Now Sam needs to share!!!

---I love the little touch Dean gave his shoulder when seeing the picture of the angel in Bobby's book, and then again looking at his shoulder when Bobby mentioned the brands the spirits had. I never noticed that! ---I loved Jared's facial expressions in this one, especially the smile at the beginning when he and Bobby were talking about angels to Dean, the one where he was saying (well, it's what it looked like to me). "Told ya so."This actually surprised me, because I had been convinced that Sam had lost his faith. Nice to know that he still believes. ---LOVE Meg! Her words to Dean, about being "ridden by evil" and about how her little sister got lost after her death--they have a lot in common. And I also love that she called Sam on the fact that he was working with Ruby. She spoke some words that should really get to both the boys.I love that she pointed it out. And I had never really thought about it; Ruby is possessing a woman against her will and by working with her, Sam (and Dean and Bobby too with the old Ruby) simply accept that. ---So, Bobby has this huge panic room, and an upstairs, and the boys sleep in the living room?Maybe the rest of the room is full of books *g* ---How did the creppy kids get Bobby into the car? Did he go hide there and they followed?I wondered about that too. ---Bobby is awesome! As always I LOVE your thoughts about the seals, both theories sound awesome!

Excellent thoughts all...
And I agree. I also wondered about the boys sleeping in the living room. I really couldn't believe Dean would let Sam have the couch. I'm could hear some comment about Sam's legs being too long or Dean being older and I was waiting for, "I get the couch because I just got out of hell."
So, maybe they were still worried about something? So they stayed in a central location? I REALLY don't see Dean sleeping on the floor like that on a regular basis at Bobby's.

I just have to add...I guess Dean still wants to go to the Grand Canyon! That's how they should end the show--both boys, parking the Impala, then walking to see it, the sun setting.
And I had to LOL at the "bunny ranch" comment--I had no idea what that was until 2 weeks ago. We were talking (by we, I mean, Shawn, my mom, my friend, her husband, and myslef) and my mom mentioned about how much the people who work at the bunny ranch made. In my head, all I could picture was someone breeding or chasing around bunny rabbits! Yeah, they all got a good laugh out of that one! ;D

I know this is a little late, especially since this episode aired two weeks ago, but I came across this review of it. The writer doesn't seem to care all that much for Bobby, but I love all her comments about JAred (I get the impression that she's a Jared girl!). She has some interesting things to say about the brothers' relationship, and also explains why Dean's voice was so low and gravely in the end scene with Castiel. www.pinkraygun.com/2008/09/30/supernatural-are-you-there-god-its-me-dean-winchester/

I love the reviews from that site. I also didn't agree about Bobby, but everything else was a very good read.

It’s then that Meg says, spitting in that way she has, “You’re a MONSTER!” At which point Sam’s face says that yes, it’s true, but NO, she’s not allowed to say that to him. Then he blows her away. Oh, the blackness that is crawling inside Sammy boy, it’s like a delicious feast of angst and emo bubbling away until it boils over. I can’t WAIT.
I liked that she wondered about the sleeping arrangements too, but didn't care for her take... Next we see a very sweet scene with Sammy asleep on the couch and Dean asleep on the floor; I love watching the boys sleep because they’re so CUTE like that. However, I’m a little puzzled. Typically, the person who has been hurt or is sick or, say, has recently gotten back from HELL gets the couch. So what’s up with Sam hogging the softness? I can’t think that this is an accident, because surely Show is fully aware of where Dean’s recently been, so I can only assume that Sam was selfish the night before, and Dean let him by saying, “No, no, I’m fine, the floor’s good enough for me.” C’mon, Dean!
I decided it was because they are striving for normalcy between them and they rock paper scissored it! Sam seems to be expressing not a single ounce of anything even remotely resembling the fact that he tore himself apart in Season 3 for a brother he loves very much.
Ya know... It's been SUCH an emotionally hard journey for them both... and they've each got their own secrets, I would be bothered if there wasn't some distance. They both have to be wondering how long their 'luck' will last.

They have both been through so much and they both need to adjust to things being "back to normal".
